I’ve been getting questions about where the name Jane Hotel Group came from and thought I’d share some background behind it. To put it simply the name “Jane” has had a reoccurring theme throughout my life, with two particular instances that inspired me to use it. The first and most obvious significance is that Jane has been used as a middle name in multiple generations and branches of my family – my mother’s middle name, my mother-in-law’s middle name, my own middle name, and my daughter’s middle name. The second significance is that Jane also happens to be the first name of one of my heroes, Jane Goodall. I could write an essay on how much she has inspired me throughout my life, but to put it simply she’s a badass lady who has had the audacity over the last 60+ years to buck societal norms to make the world a better place. As you can tell, I’m a big fan. In fact, as part of my Jane Goodall fan collection I have cherished a photo of her, which was actually a magazine page from Apple’s “Think Different” campaign, and it has remained my steadfast wall decoration for over 22 years. For these two significant reasons, as well as few others, I naturally thought of Jane while contemplating a name for my new venture. After I had mulled it over a bit, I landed on Jane Hotel Group and knew it would be perfect – strong, straightforward, feminine, and tenacious – with plenty of room to grow. During such an uncertain and tumultuous time in the hospitality industry, Jane Hotel Group represents bold hotel ownership looking at investments where lasting and impactful changes can be made at the asset-level, employee-level, and community-level. Following several cross-country moves and nearly a dozen new addresses, I have since framed my magazine clipping of Jane Goodall and she now sits in the center of my office wall, watching over me, and encouraging me to never stop making the world a better place.
